Amnesty: Militants Accuse Bayelsa Govt Of Bias …Threaten To Resume Operations
A group of repentant militant leaders on Wednesday accused the Bayelsa State Government of using bias and favouritism in dealing with them.
The militants who made the accusation after demonstrating in the streets of Yenagoa, further blamed the State Governor of trying to cause division among the leadership of repentant militant leaders in the state.
Calling on the Federal Government to intervene on the matter, a spokesman of the group referred to as General Monday, accompanied by others, expressed dismay over the attitude of Bayelsa Government towards some ex-militant leaders in the state.
He said adequate arrangement and provision were made for some leaders in terms of logistics, while others were abandoned to their fate.
According to him all the 43 camps that existed in the state were formidable as every group that operated in the creeks accepted the amnesty as put forward by Federal Government as a way of speeding the development of the region.
He disclosed that the government had come up with the idea of screening the camps not only in the state but the entire region.
He warned that if Federal Government accepts the idea, the end result will be disastrous, but however, commended President Yar’Adua for his bold step to bring lasting peace to the Niger Delta region.
