PDP Elders Reconciliation Committee Did Well – Akpabio
While the former governor Obong Victor Attah is not fully satisfied with the performance of the Ike Nwachukwu led reconciliation committee, Governor Akpabio is all thanks to the committee for a job well done.
According to him, the visit of the Peoples Democratic Party Elders reconciliation Committee to Akwa Ibom State last Tuesday to broker peace between him and his former boss yielded positive results.
The committee made peace between Obong Attah and I, we had lunch together and embraced each other,” he said.
Akpabio made the statement, Friday in a well attended press briefing in response to questions fielded by journalists in connection with the committee’s visit.
He went further to state that the entire executive of the State Peoples Democratic Party went on their knees to the elder statesman to assuage whatever insult they may have meted to him.
According to him, it was after the apology that the committee and the state party executives left for Ibom Hall where Gen. Ike Nwachukwu presented the incumbent chairman, Uwem Ita Etuk to the party faithfuls who waited anxiously.
He used the opportunity to warn rumour millers to desist forthwith, adding that he was bent on developing Akwa Ibom State whether they like it or not.
Akpabio who lamented the insecurity in the state occasioned by activities of commercial motorcyclists popularly called “Okada,” called for suggestion on what to do to stem the ugly tide.
He warned that any driver of Ibom taxi scheme who refused to use the taxi within Uyo metropolis would have the vehicle impounded.
The briefing which lasted almost three hours provided an ample opportunity for him to give explanation on various burning issues to the satisfaction of the audience Impressed by the support given him administration by the fourth estate of the realm, he announced the donation of two brand new buses to the Correspondents’ and Federated Chapels of NUJ in the state.
In the same vein, he pronounced that Ibene General Hospital will throw its gates open for patients in December.
But in another press conference addressed by the former governor, Obong Victor Attah, which almost coincided with Akpabio’s Attah insisted that Prince Uwem Ita Etuk was not elected the State party chairman according to the PDP constitution and therefore msut seize to act as one.
“I am not against any one aspiring to any party office, but such aspiration must be done accordingly” he noted.
