Quadri Aims To Pick Olympic Ticket
Nigeria table tennis star, Quadri Aruna, says he is delighted with his performance at the 2021 World Table Tennis Contender in Doha. Quadri bowed out of the men’s singles at the tournament after losing 3-0 (11-4, 13-11, 11-7) to world No.5, Japan’s Harimoto Tamakazu in the 3rd on Wednesday.
The world number 48 was the last African standing at the series in Qatar after Ahmed Saleh and Omar Assar failed to impress.
Speaking to the media about his next move, the Germany-based star said picking his slot at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at the World Singles Qualification Tournament is now his priority.
“I am happy that after resting for some days following the injury I sustained while playing for my club in the German Bundesliga, I was able to perform well at the WTT Tournaments.
“I did not train up to 10 days before heading to the competition and that means I was not even at my full best. I am optimistic that I can be part of the four players that will make it to Tokyo from the qualifiers.”
The WSQT will begin on Sunday, March 22 at the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena in Doha,Qatar and 73 men and 60 women will be aiming to pick nine Olympic tickets available.
