Rivers Monarch Lauds Wike For Tackling COVID-19 Spread
The Nyeweali of Aluu Clan in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Eze Chima Sylvanus Wokokpor, has commended Governor Nyesom Wike for his pragmatic approach in tackling Coronavirus in the state.
The monarch who described the virus as pandemic said, without the proactive steps of the Governor, the state would have witnessed high number of infected persons in the region.
Describing the state as the economic hub of oil and gas, Eze Wokokpor lauded Wike for putting some palliative measures in place to cushion the hardships Rivers people experienced during the pandemic and lockdown.
Eze Wokokpor who spoke to The Tide yesterday at his palace in Omuchiolu Aluu through his Secretary, Elder ThankGod Abraham appealed to Rivers people and those doing business in the state to strictly adhere to all the precautionary directives by the state to control the spread of the virus in the state.
He insisted that the disease had no cure, even as he described it as a global threat to humanity
The paramount ruler also appeal to residents of the state to also adhere to social distancing, regular hand wash practice and report any suspected carrier of the virus to the National Centre for Disease Control NCDC in the state to curb the spread of the pandemic.
The monarch assured the Governor that his subjects in the Clan would strictly adhere to all government’s directives on precautionary measures to stop the spread of the virus.
On palliative to cushion the effects on his subjects, Eze Wokokpor said he would ensure that agricultural produce are made available to the people to sustain lives.
Aluu Clan, he said is predominantly farmers, more yams, garri, plantains and other agricultural produce would be made available to the people at a reduced price in line with the state government directives on palliative.
The Aluu monarch also thanked the Governor for the on going construction of three flyovers in the state, saying the projects would enhance the beauty of the state, enhance the economic status of the state and improve lives of the people.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
