Shelve Proposed Strike, College Appeals To Union
The management of the Rivers State College of Health Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, has urged the labour unions in the institution to shelve their proposed strike and join hands with it to move the college forward.
The Provost of the institution, Dr. Franklin Nleruma, who said this while reacting to threats by the Joint Council of ASUP and SSANU to embark on strike from next Monday, if their demands are not met, said that strike would not solve the problem of the college.
Nlerum said that the institution, which is affiliated to several external bodies, would be badly affected by the strike, stressing that the unions must look for ways to resolve issues through dialogue as the management has already invited the unions’ leaderships for a meeting.
The Provost, however, denied allegations that the college was presently in a bad state, stressing that the allegations of the untidiness of the college campus, lack of water, poor sanitation and snakes-infested hostels were false.
He also denied that the institution has no bank account, stressing that all payments made in respect of admission into the college were done through designated bank accounts.
