2019: Group Wants Abua/Odual To Produce Senator
A group, the ABOLGA League for Development and Advancement has made a case for Abua/Odual to produce the next Senator from the Rivers West Senatorial District come 2019.
This was contained in a communiqué signed by Chairman, BoT, Comrade Igoni Owolobi and Secretary, Kramer Lawrence Umoroye, respectively, and made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt.
They recalled that at the start of the fourth Republic, Martins Yellowe was elected senator on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in May 1999 and was re-elected in 2003 in the same Rivers West district.
They said the state is made up of three senatorial districts namely: Rivers East, Rivers South East and Rivers West.
The Rivers West comprise Abua/Odual, Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Akuku/Toru, Bonny, Degema and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government areas with ethnic groups like Kalabaris, Ibanis Ekpeya’s and Obas’, which has all been represented in the Senate except Abua/Odual.
They further said presently the district is being represented by Senator Osinakachukwu Ideozu, wondering if an indigene of Abua/Odual does not have what it takes to claim a senatorial seat.
The communique reads, “With our huge investment in the Rivers political emancipation and the various contributions that were made by our leadership to extricate Rivers West District and the state as a whole from political grip.
“We are therefore demanding that other ethnic groups stay away that have taken a slot in the Rivers West Senatorial District for the Abua ethnic nationality.
‘Abua/Odual local government has already prepared credible candidates to run for the Senate come 2019,” the communique concluded.
