GM Promises Wider Circulation Of The Tide
The General Manager of Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, publishers of The Tide newspaper, Mr Vincent Ake has indicated the plan of the management to ensure wider circulation of the newspaper as a mouthpiece of the government and the Niger Delta region.
Ake, who stated this when the executive members of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS), Rivers State University chapter paid him a courtesy visit in his office said the focal point would be on students to expose them to the workings, policies and programmes of government and the society.
He noted that by so doing, students would be better placed to correct negative impressions by the people, explaining that the main business of The Tide newspaper is to inform, educate and sensitise the people.
According to him, the media house could be regarded as a market place for ideas that are put on paper as products and sold to the reading public, adding, “we find our job very interesting because a society that is in the dark is filled with ignorance and not well informed”, and commended the students for choosing to visit the corporation.
Also speaking, the Director, Business Development, RSNC, Mr Valentine Ugboma told the students that the corporation was prepared to synergise with them in ensuring that they get any information that would facilitate their academic activities.
He stressed the need for them to also promote The Tide newspaper by canvassing for advertorials and other businesses that would enhance their livelihood both at school and the outside world.
Earlier, the National President of NURSS, Comrade Patrick U. Ogbuehi had informed the corporation’s General Manager that they were there to identify with the corporation in order to benefit from its good work as it concerns information dissemination, and thanked the management for its support so far in reporting the union’s activities.
