IPMAN Employs 13.2m Nationwide
A factional Chairman of
Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Calabar Depot, Mr Michael Udofia, says the union has 13.2 million Nigerians in its employ nationwide.
Udofia said this yesterday in Calabar when he led members of his executive committee on a courtesy visit to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Mr Rekpene Bassey.
He said, “IPMAN controls 88 per cent of the activities that happen in the downstream sector of the petroleum industry. By this, I mean that 88 per cent of petrol tankers and filling stations in Nigeria are owned by our members.
“As of last week, we have about 13.2 million Nigerians in our employ including those working in filling stations across the country, tanker drivers, conductors and loaders. And that explains the importance of our role in the socio-economic lives of the people.’’
He said the purpose of the visit was to assure the State Security Adviser and the State Government of IPMAN’s support in ensuring peace and tranquility in the state.
The chairman stressed that Calabar Depot was key in the supply and distribution of petroleum products to Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi and some states in the North-East.
The state security adviser said the role of IPMAN in the downstream sector of the petroleum industry was very important.
He urged the association to support the efforts of the state government in maintaining peace and security through its Corporate Social Responsibility.
According to him, the organisation can do this by investing in the State’s Security Trust Fund.
“Nobody would want to invest in a place where there is no security. So, join us to keep the state secure so that you can do your business in an atmosphere of peace and security, ‘’ he said.
