Authorities of the Rivers State College of Arts and Science, Port Harcourt, (RIVCAS), have declared total ban on compulsory sale of handouts or books by lecturers or their agents in the institution.
The Provost of the College, Dr Hillary Wordu disclosed this during the 22nd matriculation ceremony of the college in Port Harcourt, recently.
The Provost said the decision was in line with the college’s policy on standards and excellence and pointed out that prices of books and quality assessment were currently handled by a special committee duly constituted by the college authorities.

He said the college had within 2006 and 2012 recorded increased students enrolment, from the average of 1,300 to over 2,000, while more courses had been acrredited at National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) levels by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
The Provost also stated that his management would resist and confront any act of indiscipline, such as cultism and other forms of anti social behaviour by students, and called on parents to play a critical role in the bringing up of their wards.
He thanked the Rivers State Government for its untiring support towards the development of the college.
