Police Parade Six Suspected Crude Oil Thieves In Calabar
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 6 , Malam Mohamed Abubakar, on Thursday paraded six suspected crude oil thieves in Calabar.
Abubakar told newsmen that the suspects were arrested by the zone’s anti-pipeline vandalism squad in collaboration with JTF personnel attached to Eleme in Port Harcourt.
He said that two trucks loaded with petroleum products suspected to be crude oil were recovered from two of the suspects at the scene of the crime.
They included five Mac trucks with registration numbers; XF321BGM, XL984KUT, XH724B23, YD845ENU and XZ367MUS.
According to him, the four other suspects were arrested for stealing solar panel installed on Shell oil pipeline located in Ahaoda, Rivers.
The AIG, who was represented by the Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO) of the zone, Mr Ibrahim Tasiu, said that the solar panel was valued at N134 million.
He said one of the security guards on the pipeline, was among the suspects.
He said that investigation into the matter had started and that the suspects would soon be charged to court.
The PPRO said the stolen solar panel had yet to be recovered from the buyers who were currently on the run.
Meanwhile, some of the suspects told newsmen they were framed up by the police.
One of them who claimed to be a graduate of Electrical Engineering of a university in the state, denied taking part in the crime.
