BPP Solicits UNDP’s Assistance On Reforms
The Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP), has urged the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support the ongoing procurement reforms in Nigeria.
The call was contained in a statement issued by BPP’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr Abiodun Adeniyi, in Abuja.
According to Adeniyi, the bureau will always ensure transparency in the procurement process.
“The reform process will only be successful if it is constantly validated by organisations like the UNDP.
“It is a key to any national development and it is important that we get the needed moral and financial support from agencies capable of providing them,” the statement said.
The statement noted that the bureau had enjoyed adequate support from stakeholders irrespective of challenges.
It commended the effort of UNDP in co-sponsoring its monitoring and evaluation project in the 2008 budget and called for more partnership.
“Driving a reform in a developing economy is a very expensive project, the cost of publicity and logistics can always be enormous.
“To that end, anything less than $5 million assistance over a period would not be adequate.
It quoted the UNDP Country Director, Ms Ade Mamonyane-Lekoetje, as saying that accountability and transparency remain the watchword the agency shares with the bureau.
She added that the visit was to explore more partnership opportunities with the BPP.
