RSG Plans Mega Water Scheme
The Rivers State Government is fine turning plans to kick-start a mega water scheme for Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas.
The Director in charge of water in the Ministry of Water Resources and Rural Development, Engr L.N.Nwafor disclosed this in an interview with The Tide, Wednesday,in Port Harcourt.
Engr Nwafor also said that all the existing water facilities in the city will be upgraded for effective distribution of water in the two local government areas.
In addition to the proposed project, government he said is also planning a regional water scheme for the rural areas.
According to him, the regional water scheme will involve the construction of full fledged pumping stations, while a treatment plant will be in installed in the riverine areas because of the peculiarities of the area.
He identified some problems affecting clean water production in the riverine areas to include iron and other biological and chemical impurities, stressing that those areas need complete treatment plant to take care of the contaminations.
Engr Nwafor also stated that the problem of water scarcity in Ataba and Bille in Andoni and Degema Local Government Areas respectively are being tackled by the government.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
