PTOL Embarks On 24-hr Service In PH
As part of efforts to reposition the Port Harcourt port wharf for greater efficiency, as well as be the best port and terminal operator in Nigeria, the Port and Terminal Operators Limited (PTOL), a concessionaire in-charse of terminal ‘A’ at Port Harcourt wharf has embarked on 24-hour service delivery.
Making this known while speaking to the press in Port Harcourt, the Managing Director of the company, Mrs. L. B. Obvude said that the decision to embark on round-the-cock service is basically to encourage importers to patronise and make use of the Port Harcourt port.
She said that the port has taken new shape in terms of infrastructure and other facilities that will make it competitive like any other port in Nigeria, pointing out various areas the Port Harcourt port has advantage over other ports.
According to her “we have online service documentation, efficient customer-care services, safety of goods and easy, fast documentation process as well as low transport cost and low tariff charges”.
Obvude posited that the vision of her company is to be the best port and terminal operator in Nigeria, and also to go into full container operation this year.
The PTOL boss said that terminal ‘A’ has a total length of about 650 metres quay apron and staking area measuring over 70,000 square metres, and also has six warehouses/transit sheds, adding that 14 modern cargo handling equipment are already available for use at the terminal.
She also stated that a reasonable draught of about 8.5 meters has been achieved and that 10.5 metres drought will be achieved after the on going dredging.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
