The President of the Association of Niger Delta Upland Communities, Hon Isah Mohammed Obiri, has called for the inclusion of upland communities in the pipeline survellianc contract.
Obiri, who stated this at a news briefing in Port Harcourt, said upland communities have been sidelined in the survellianc contract, adding that some in the Niger Delta have see the contract as a birthright.
Isah demanded the release of details of Niger Delta oil surveillance contact within the Trans Niger Oil pipeline (TNP) and Assa Oguta Trunkline/Rumuekpe Oil pipeline in Rivers State.
He added that the body will no longer tolerate deniance of the rights of their people in this wise.
“We will no longer keep quiet while our rights and privileges are being taken away”, Obiri said, adding that the group will stand for their total right for what belongs to the upland community.
He claimed that Rumuekpe produces 700,000 barrels of crude, adding that Upland communities deserve a fair deal as far as Surveilliance contract was concerned.
He said the scope of the contract never cut across the jurisdiction of some of those benefitting from it, but within the upland communities, especially Rumuekpe in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
