RSUST To Collaborate With APWEN On Mentorship
Vice Chancellor of the
Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Prof. Blessing Chimezie Didia, has expressed the institution’s willingness to collaborate with the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) on Students’ Mentorship”.
Didia, who gave this indication recently when the delegation of APWEN paid him a courtesy visit in office, expressed the institution’s resolve to partner with any association whose objectives are geared towards empowering and encouraging students on skills development.
Responding to a revelation by the Chairman of APWEN, Engr Antonia Hangwa, that the body has instituted a scholarship scheme for best graduating female engineering students, he urged APWEN to create the opportunity to orientate the female engineering students on resumption from holiday.
The Vice Chancellor, who noted that any female engineering student who studies hard will always excel, commended the efforts of APWEN on its programmes geared towards encouraging Nigeria’s female engineers in nation building.
Speaking earlier, Engr Hangwa had explained that APWEN had decided to offer scholarship to best graduating female engineering students to study masters programme in abroad as a means of encouraging them in their hard work.
She noted that if the university accepts to collaborate with APWEN, it “stands to gain immensely as we will establish a centre that will give the student a forum for sharing of ideas on how to become great engineers in the nearest future”.
Hangwa used the opportunity to note that RSUST had witnessed drastic developments since Prof. Didia’s appointment as VC and urged him not to relent in efforts aimed at ensuring that RSUST is developed to be at par with global standard.
