Friends, Associates Mourn Late Ex-RSNC GM
Friends and associates of
the former General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC), late Dr Anthony A. Amakiri recently paid a condolence visit to the fallen mass communication expert.
The group under the auspices of league of Veteran Journalists was received by the wife of the deceased, Dr Fabiya Amakiri at their private residence.
Addressing the bereaved family, the President of Leaque of Veteran Journalists, Chief Wofuru Okparaolu urged the widow to take solace as her departed husband lived a life worthy of emulation.
According to him, death is inevitable which God has designed but encouraged-the widow to give glory to God as he alone knows why Dr Amakiri had to depart from this world.
Okparaolu also enjoined her to draw close to God and prayed that God would strengthen her to bear the loss of her husband.
“God is the husband to widows and so will be your sole provider”, he added.
He also urged her to be strong as her attention would be much needed by the family, especially her children and relations.
Speaking on behalf of the family, the wife of late Dr Amakiri thanked them for identifying with the family at this period of their grief.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Editorial Board of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, Dagogo Clinton, described late Amakiri as a very useful person both in politics, media, and also a lecturer.
“During his time as the General Manager of the corporation, we were not left to wonder if it is a state newspaper or not because of the close relationship that existed between the government and the corporation.”
“He also made sure that staff of the corporation were professionally trained which led to the growth of the corporation.”
A minute silence was observed in honour of the departed colleague and friend. Also prayers were offered for the soul of the departed and for members of the family.
The climax of the visit was the signing of a condolence register by the friends and colleagues of the deceased.
Meanwhile, the remains of late Dr A. A. Amakiri will be interred on Saturday, June 6, 2015 in his country home, Oguruama (Old Bakana) in Degema local government area of Rivers State.
