First RSUST Fashion Trade Fair Excites Students
Students of the Rivers
State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) have expressed satisfaction over the first fashion trade fair held in its campus.
The 5-day fashion trade fair, which ended last Friday, witnessed mostly female and male wares, ranging from assorted shoes, handbag, trousers, shirts, cosmetics, jewelries, etc, from Ghana and Lagos.
Some of the students, mostly females, who spoke to The Tide on condition of anonymity disclosed that the trade fare afforded them the opportunity to buy quality wares at a relatively cheaper rate but that the timing is wrong.
“There is no money this period, mostly because of the political situation, and most of our parents, who are civil servants are not paid their salaries. Again, we’re just coming from the Christmas’ holiday”, some of the students said.
One of the promoters, Nnandi Callistus, who deals in ladies wares acknowledged the fact that the first RSUST trade fare was comparatively low in patronage.
Callistus, who is based in Lagos, revealed that since its inception over five years ago,” said.” I have promoted my wares in plenty universities through out Nigeria. This one (in RSUST) is the one that we did not make much sales.”
He also acknowledged the fact that the low sales is a result of the period of the event, noting that on record universities in which the highest sales have been made are Covenant University, UNIPORT, where he said the event was staged twice in 2014, as well as university of Benin and Delta State University, Abraka, respectively.
While explaining that the delay in staging the event for the first time in RSUST was due to security fears, he noted that the next edition would be planned better.
“In UNIPORT and other schools, there are other attractions, live DJs and performances by renowned artists’, he said.
