Academy Wins Peace Posters Campaign
Light Gate Academy,
Abuja has emerged winner and first runner up of the peace posters contest organised by the International Association of Lion Clubs District 404 A2.
The contest which held at the weekend in Port Harcourt also saw Brookstone School and Cita International School coming third respectively.
Schools that took part in the competition include; Light Gate Academy Abuja, Brookstone School Port Harcourt, Cita International School also of Port Harcourt and Government College Afara Eket Akwa Ibom State.
The Director in charge of Peace Poster Contest Doris Orji told The Tide in an interview that the contest was part of the activities of the club to instill the idea of peace in the consciousness of young Nigerians.
Lions Orji said that the contest was to enable the students to use their Creative Work of Art to preach peace in the world.
She said that time has come for the governments and organisations to fashion out ways of involving the young ones in spreading the message of peace across the world.
Lions Orji also tasked the government to create employment opportunities for the youths, as research over the years has shown that lack of economic opportunities and deprivation bred violence.
She said that as a responsible organisation the Lions Club will continue to enact programmes that would lead to a sustainable peace in the society.
Also speaking, the zonal Chairperson in District 404A2 region 1, Lions Sado Theophillus said that the ceremony was in line with the international peace day of the club.
Lions Theophillus said that the day was set aside to propagate that the artistic work as part of the efforts to encourage creativity as well as enable young minds to participate in the making of peace in the world.
