NCAA Boss Heads Regional Aviation Safety Group
The Director-General of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Dr. Harold Demuren has been elected chairman of Africa-Indian Ocean Regional Aviation Safety Group.
He was elected at the inaugural meeting of the group which took place in Kampala Uganda.
The objective of the meeting was to improve on air safety in Africa-Indian Ocean region, which still records the highest accident rate in the world, in spite of the fact that the number of air crashes in the area has significantly reduced in recent times.
In attendance at the meeting were representatives of all the Civil Aviation Authorities in Africa and the Indian Ocean, the representatives of the United States Department of Transportation (DOT), Boeing Company International Air Transportation Association (IATA).
Other attendees were representatives of International Federation of Airline Pilots Associations (IFALPA), the Agency for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa and several donor agencies among others.
