As the federal and State Governments begin the process of constituting their executive councils the immediate past chairperson of the Federation of International Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Rivers State Mrs Florence Fiberesima has called for strict application of the 35 per cent Affirmative Action in their various appointments.
Mrs Florence Fiberesima who said this in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt last Wednesday said that Nigerian women have suffered various level of discrimination in the past.
She said that this is the time the various levels of government in the country should redress the injustice meted to women in the country.
The former FIDA chairperson particularly urged the presidency to increase the number of women for ministerial positions from the present eight to at least ten or above to enable them contribute their quota to the development of the country.
Mrs. Fiberesima also commended the Rivers State Government for the various appointments given to women in the state but stressed the need for women to be considered for more future appointments.
Speaking on the last general election, the former FIDA chairperson acknowledged the woeful performances of women in the election, stressing that this ugly situation has underscored the need for women to go back to the drawing board with the view to wresting power in 2015.
She, however, said that the Federation of International Women Lawyer (FIDA) would continue to enlighten women on their right as well as the various strategies to adopt in their electioneering campaign.
