50% Filling Stations In A’Ibom Operate Without Licence – DPR
As crisis rule in the dis
tribution and sale of petroleum products across Nigeria, it has been uncovered that only 50 per cent of filling stations in Akwa Ibom State operate with the valid licence of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).
DPR’s Controller Operation in charge of Akwa Ibom and Cross Rivers States, Mr Bassey Nkanga, made this disclosure Friday at a meeting between DPR and Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) in Eket, Akwa Ibom State.
The DPR boss also said that the state has the highest number of filling stations in the country with cases of pump dispensing inefficiency, hoarding and diversion of products, among other illegalities.
Nkanga, who noted that marketers in Akwa Ibom were among states in the country dispensing fuel for above the official regulated prices, said government would not tolerate any longer any marketer selling the products above the official pump prices, irrespective of whatever story anybody might have to tell.
“The stand of government is that if you know you cannot make profit for selling at N86.50 per litre, please don’t sell”, said Nkanga.
Stressing that the era of impunity was over, the operations controller pleaded with the marketers to operate according to official guidelines.
“I want to plead with us, you have made so much money, now is time for everybody to comply with Federal Government directives”, he maintained.
He warned that sanction awaits any marketer caught compromising with stipulated standard particularly selling above N86.50 per litre of the Premium Motor Spirit.
