TADC, RSU Collaborate On Campus-Based Agric Initiative
The African Diaspora Collective (TADC) Worldwide, and the Rivers State University (RSU) have confirmed plans for a transformative campus-based agricultural initiative for research, innovation, and direct connections to TADC Global Black Supply Chain.
This is sequel to a meeting between the Goodwill Ambassador for the United State of Georgia, USA, and African Embassy Ambassador of TADC, Ambassador Davisha L. Johnson, with the authorities of the RSU led by Vice Chancellor, Prof Isaac Zeb-Obipi and the Registrar, Mrs. Ibimonia Harry to confirm the plans.
The meeting explored a wide-ranging partnership that includes the opening of TADC’s third Nigeria office planned to be on the university’s campus, Connect the University Students and Staff through the Global Black Supply Chain of the Fight for 15 Global Compact, and the establishment of a One-Hectare Sustainable Farm University model (demonstration and training site) – the first of its kind in Africa based at a public university.
Other areas of partnership are Launch of study abroad; fellowship with Historically Black Colleges like Fort Valley State University in Georgia; and joint training programmes between Nigerian and international institutions; Strategic alignment with potential USDA and sovereign wealth funds grant funding to accelerate innovation in African academic agriculture; and support the project and Hosting of the Annual International Agricultural Academia Specialty Crop (IAASC) Summit on the university campus.
This expansion is part of Project 2040, the flagship programme of the Fight for 15 Global Compact campaign for year one, a worldwide initiative to create 50 million jobs across 15 African countries and 15 heavily populated African descendant countries like Brazil, USA, and United Kingdom by the year 2040.
The campaign is aligned with both United Nations Agenda 2030 and AU Agenda 2063 goals and is accelerating at a rapid pace across West Africa.
“Nigeria is not just participating in the global agricultural revolution, it is leading it.
“Our partners at Rivers State University understand the power of aligning academics with the soil, the marketplace, and the future of Africa’s food sovereignty”, Ambassador Johnson said.
The Vice Chancellor of RSU, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi, thanked the team for the proposed transformative campus-based agricultural initiative for research, innovation, and direct connections to TADC Global Black Supply Chain.
He expressed willingness of the university to provide the necessary support towards the success of the programme.
