Why We Need S’South Dev Commission – Sara Igbe

Former spokesman of Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Chief Anabs Sara Igbe, has reiterated the need for the establishment of South South Development Commission.
Chief Sara-Igbe who spoke on a live radio programme in Port Harcourt said the establishment of the commission is for equity and fairness to the region.
He argued that the establishment of the South South Development Commission has become imperative because other regions like South East and South West have regional development commissions.
“This will help pacify our people because the money used in funding the other regional commissions come from us”, the elder statesman said.
He disagreed that the commission will duplicate the function of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), saying the NDDC is for the entire Niger Delta, and not for the six states in the South South alone.
Said he,” there will be no duplication of function. The NDDC is for the Niger Delta states that include those of the South West and South East. This one is specifically for the South South states.”
Commenting on why Kalabari paid a solidarity visit to Rivers State governor, Sir. Siminialayi Fubara, Chief Sara- Igbe said it was in appreciation of the works the administration is doing in Kalabari land.
“Just a year and half of his administration Governor Fubara has done a lot for us. I can tell you that so far that no governor has done these things for Kalabari people. The Kalabari people are happy and are asking for more,” he said.
The PANDEF leader sued for reconciliation between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Fubara, stressing that peace is key for Rivers development.
He commended Fubara for maintaining a calm and peaceful disposition in the face of political provocation, urging him not to be deterred but to continue in his good works for Rivers people.
