Youths Protesting Colleague’s Killing Block Road In Edo
There was palpable tension in Iguomo and Ikhueniro in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, along the Benin-Asaba Road on Wednesday as irate youths barricaded the road over the killing of one of them.
An eyewitness told our Correspondent that the aggrieved youths have also set bonfires along the road.
The youth, armed with sticks and machetes, have made the road impassable.
The blockade has left commuters stranded, with passengers forced to disembark from buses arriving from both the Asaba and Agbor directions.
The eyewitness said, “The lifeless body of the deceased Hausa youth lies on the floor.
“Attempts to document the scene were met with opposition from the irate youths, who prevented taking photographs.
“The absence of law enforcement agents at the scene added to the tension, as the situation remains volatile. Commuters are advised to exercise caution and seek alternative routes, as the road closure disrupts travel and commerce in the area.
“The motive behind the alleged shooting remains unclear, deepening the complexity of the incident. Authorities are urgently called upon to intervene, address the concerns of the grieving community, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The priority now is to diffuse the tension, restore order, and ensure the safety of all those affected by this tragic event.”
Attempt to reach the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, was unsuccessful as of the time of filling this report.
