Porbeni Urges Fubara, Wike To Embrace Peace …Harps On Reviving Rivers Economy
Elderstatesman and former member of the Provisional Ruling Council(PRC), Retired Admiral Festus Porbeni, has urged Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminialayi Fubara to settle their political differences.
Admiral Porbeni in a statement, yesterday, said peace is key to transform Rivers State and return it to its former status, as economic capital of Nigeria.
He said “ Peace is the linkage between development and democracy. There is need for peace in River State to attract investment and development.”
He noted that the same political crisis had occurred between Wike and his erstwhile boss and former governor, Chibuike Amaechi which had taken the state backward.
Such situation Porbeni averred does not only scare investors, but paint the state in bad light.
The ex-naval chief counselled Wike and Fubara to jettison their differences for the sake of Rivers State to engender development.
He regretted that for over a decade now the state has been beset with intractable political bickerings that have set it backward, while noting that this sad situation should be discarded so the state will move at a pace or even higher than Lagos, as it used to be.
Once this happens, Porbeni said Rivers State will bounce back and regain its status, as political crisis drives investors away.
