Police Arrest Six Suspects Over Murder Of DPO In Rivers
The Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested six persons allegedly in connection with the murder of the late Divisional Police Officer, in charge of Ahaoda Division, late SP Bako Amgbanshin, last Friday.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Emeka, disclosed this when he led his management team and tactical units, to conduct an operation on Saturday in Odumude Community, Ahaoda East LGA of Rivers State.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, in Port Harcourt, over the weekend quoted as saying that the essence of the operation was to ensure that they recover the deceased’s body and conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the community.
“During this operation, six suspects were apprehended within the community. Among the items seized were a locally crafted pistol and various charms. These suspects and the confiscated items are currently under police custody and are undergoing interrogation at the State CID, Port Harcourt. As a result of these developments, the community has been evacuated by its residents”, the statement said.
According to the statement, a new DPO, SP Zuokumor Richard, has been assigned to the division.
“He is accompanied by half a unit of men from Mopol 48, one-third unit from Mopol 19, 56, and tactical teams. He has been tasked with a thorough search of the area, apprehension of the culprits responsible for the DPO’s demise, recovery of the body, and location of any operational weapons used. This operation will continue while the investigation remains ongoing”.
It would be recalled that SP Bako was killed by some cult members believed to be members of Iceland cult fraternity.
The gunmen, who are suspected to be Iceland cultists, reportedly captured and dismembered Bako.
A viral video which surfaced last Friday night showed Angbanshin’s head, hand and private part separated with several deep machete cuts.
The gunmen chanted victory songs while his decomposing remains littered the floor.
The spokesperson of the state Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the killing of the DPO.
