UNESCO Seeks More Funds, Infrastructure For Education
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), has recently called for improved funding and infrastructure in the education sector.
It also called on leaders and elected officials to ensure students learn to their best capacity in order to tackle the menace of out-of-school children across Africa.
Speaking in Abuja at the commemoration of the Day of the African Child, Officer in charge, UNESCO Regional Office, Abuja, Phillipe Delanghe, raised awareness for the continuous need to improve learning provided to African children.
Delanghe, who was represented by the Senior Education Specialist at UNESCO, Regina Prisco said: “Global and national evidence points to the fact that education has the power to transform the lives of children and young people and help them improve their agency, their human capital, realise their potentials as productive members of the society.
“In the words of Nelson Mandela Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
“The digital space better provides a platform to facilitate this. Investing in infrastructure and tools to improve the quality of education of the African child is an investment in the right direction.”
