RSU Commends Nigeria Police Over Security Support On Campus
Management of the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, has expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Police, Rivers State Command, over continuous support in maintaining peace and order in the Institution.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Nlerum S. Okogbule, conveyed the appreciation when he led other Principal Officers and Heads of Campuses of the University, on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, CP Okon Effiong Okon, on Tuesday.
The Vice-Chancellor attributed the peace on campus to the synergy of the Nigerian Police with the University’s security team which has contributed immensely to the smooth successive academic sessions.
He told the Commissioner of Police that the University is set to commence academic activities in her new campuses at Etche, Emohua, Ahoada and Sakpenwa, and solicited for security coverage in the campuses.
The Vice-Chancellor used the forum to congratulate CP Okon Effiong Okon on his recent posting as Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command and wished him well in his new assignment.
In his response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Okon Effiong Okon, thanked the Vice-Chancellor and his management team for the visit.
He commended the university for ensuring that her doors were open for academic activities when most universities embarked on strike that lasted for eight months.
He maintained that institutions of higher learning are centres for the inculcation of useful values to the youths as to make them useful to the society, adding that the Rivers State University is leading in this area.
He also commended the students of the University for their peaceful disposition and assured the management of the University that he will deploy some tactical team of Police men to ensure that adequate security is provided for the campuues.
