Delta Govt, Zenith Bank Partner On Schools Soccer Competition
The Commissioner for Basic Education in Delta State, Mr Sunday Onoriode, says 616 schools will participate in the fourth edition of the Zenith Bank Delta Headmaster’s Cup Football Competition, in the state.
Onoriode said this on Monday at a news conference to herald the competition which would hold between January 20 and February 14 at St Patrick’s College, Asaba.
According to him, football competitions can provide a better future for students, and foster love for sport in children at young age.
“The Zenith Bank Delta Headmaster’s Cup Football Competition is an avenue to discover young talents in sports while fulfilling the needs of our children.
“The competition has shown fruitful results in the past and promises to continue to be pivotal in the development of grassroots sports both in Delta State and beyond.
“This year’s edition is an improvement on the past editions as we strive to make the competition more inclusive with participation by public and private primary schools in Delta.
“The preliminary stage of the competition will run simultaneously across the 25 local government areas of the state,” he said.
He expressed appreciation of the state government to Zenith Bank for the continued support in sponsoring the competition.
“This endeavour is worthy of emulation as Zenith Bank remains a trustworthy partner in grassroots sports development industry,” he said.
