Nwanosike Praises Wigwe Over Varsity At Isiokpo
The Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Engr. Samuel Nwanosike, yesterday, stated that the proposed Wigwe University, Isiokpo, was a prayer answered.
Nwanosike made the statement at his office, Isiokpo, when a delegation of the National University Commission (NUC) and Wigwe University, Isiokpo, paid him a courtesy visit ahead of the official flag off of the university.
According to him, “It is a thing of joy that under our watch as a people, as Ikwerre people, that finally our prayers have been answered”.
He expressed joy that a university would be established in Isiokpo due to the tackling of insecurity and illegal oil bunkering by the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike.
“Before now, Ikwerre Local Government was bedevilled with insecurity. Despite insecurity, we had illegal oil bunkering activities all over this environment, but as God will have it God has brought the Moses of our time in the person of Herbert Wigwe to complete was Governor Nyesom Wike has started”, Nwanosike said.
He recollected how Wike brought peace to Isiokpo by fighting insecurity and illegal oil bunkering activities which propelled the establishment of the university.
Nwanosike stressed that Dr. Herbert Wigwe has been doing so much for Ikwerre people, but added that the establishment of the university has surpassed all his good deeds.
“What Herbert Wigwe has done today has shown us that education is a solution to all our problems. It will give us job. It will give us knowledge. It will give us the right to grow wealth and to live peacefully as a people and the world will come to us”, Nwanosike stated.
He added that Ikwerre Local Government Council would do all its best to support the dream and ambition of Dr. Herbert Wigwe in establishment of the university.
However, Nwanosike called on NUC to facilitate the commencement of the university.
Speaking on behalf of the National University Commission (NUC), the leader of the team, Prof. Abubakar Adamu, assured that the National University Commission would do all that is possible in making Wigwe University a reality.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor of proposed Wigwe University, Prof Darlington Didia, thanked the Chairman of Ikwerre LGA for his unalloyed supports and provision of security to the establishment of Wigwe University, on their team was Prof. Don Baridam, former vice chancellor of University of Port Harcourt.
All the principal officers of the council, former Dean, Faculty of Humanities University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Wellington Wetobge Wenika; and Prof. Temple Nwofor of the Department of Civil Engineering University of Port Harcourt, were present.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
