2023: IYC Hails Ordu’s Choice As Fubara’s Running Mate

A pan-Ijaw group, the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Opobo/Ibani Clan, has described the choice of former commissioner for education in Rivers State, Prof Ngozi Ordu, as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate in 2023 general election as a wise and acceptable decision, adding that her emergence would open new vista of hope in the state.
Speaking with The Tide, recently in Bori, after its National Executive Council meeting, President of the group, Hon Ibitamuno Cookey-Gam, said Ordu would bring her deep intellectual capacity to bear on governance with the governorship candidate, Amaopusenibo Siminialayi Fubara, if elected.
He said: “Prof Ngozi Ordu will bring clarity of thought laced with deepness of consideration into the decision-making process of the campaign team and government, if the team forms government in 2023.
“But whether the foregoing is translated into any form of electoral capital will become clearer as we gravitate towards the polls next year.
“As an administrator par excellence, we cannot but only wish her and the team well in the exercise,” he said.
The group leader described Ordu’s choice as Fubara’s governorship running-mate as a good omen, noting that her joint ticket with Fubara would assist in strengthening Rivers State once more.
Cookey-Gam said with her adoption, Rivers State has a lot to look forward to with the combination Fubara and Ordu, adding that, “one can start to hope that the oil-rich state under Sim Fubara and Ngozi Ordu would begin to climb up towards its former glory again.
“Ordu is a loyal, quiet and unassuming complete leader, who sees honesty as development bedrock; an upright and detribalised transformational juggernaut.
“Prof Ordu is a well-known personality, and once a permanent secretary and commissioner in the state with vast leadership acumen and managerial skills and prowess.
“Therefore, in our view, Prof Ordu remains a fit and real person to occupy the position of deputy governor of Rivers State, and an excellent running-mate for Amaopusenibo Siminialayi Fubara.
“This is because she is a woman who has achieved so much in academic, social and political life in Rivers State in particular and Nigeria in general,”Cookey-Gam said.
Cookey-Gam said: “She is an excellent administrator with deep leadership, managerial skill and wisdom to build better bridges of transformation as one-time permanent secretary and commissioner,” he submitted.
