Otuwarikpo Resigns As Regent Of Eze Ekpeye Logbo
Eze Felix Enene Otuwarikpo, Eze Upata Kingdom III of Ekpeye Land, has resigned his appointment as the Regent of Eze Ekpeye Logbo.
This is contained in a press release issued on Monday, 14th March, 2022, by his Special Adviser On Media and Publicity, Comrade Oyagiri Monday and made available to newsmen.
According to the release, the regency appointment would, however, last not more than a period of one year, but exceeded the stipulated period due to unnecessary litigation that greeted his appointment; also the delay in electing a new Eze Ekpeye logbo III.
“It has been well-nigh impossible for the Regent to continue; and upon deep reflection and partial to his personal values and wide consultation, he has formally resigned his position as Regent to the stool of Eze Ekpeye Logbo immediately, at a formal meeting of the Regency Council and members of the Ekpeye Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs on Monday, 14th March, 2022,” Oyagiri stated.
“He could no longer bear the rot, the stench and the obvious hypocrisy that pervades the landscape, Oyagiri said. The indefinite postponement of the election of Eze Ekpeye Logbo III; Therefore, is one pill too difficult to allow by the Upata Traditional Council and the good people of Upata Kingdom.”
The release added that Eze Otuwarikpo having resigned, had equally dissolved the Regency council. All activities of Ekpeye Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs remains suspended including the executive committee and Ekpeye Ethnic Nationality Customary and Arbitration Panel.
Comrade Oyagiri noted that within the regency period, Eze Otuwarikpo was able to keep peace across the length and breadth of Ekpeye land, granted traditional amnesty to 443 Ekpeye sons and daughters who denounced cultism and also surrendered their weapons; inaugurated rehabilitation committee to assist in reintegrating the repentant cultists among other achievements.
However, The Tide learnt that the appointment of Otuwarikpo as the Regent of Eze Ekpeye Logbo came in the heels of the death of late Ekpeye monarch, HRM. Eze (FLT. Leut.) Robinson O. Robinson CON, Who had ruled the Ekpeye Land for 40 years.
Dr. Otuwarikpo, our investigation revealed, was made the first among equal in line with the provision of section 4 (1) of the 2010 Ekpeye bye-law, but his counterparts rejected his appointment result in the court case which he floored his opponents.
