Skills Development, Panacea For Crime -Monarch
The Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers has called for the development and application of functional skills on the part of youth as the panacea for crime .
The Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom gave the charge during a solidarity visit by the Council to the Okaan Ama of Ikuru Town , King (Dr) Aaron Ikuru who was recently released from kidnappers den.
The monarch attributed the growing spate of kidnapping and other crimes in the society to unemployment and the lack of functional engagement of the youth in skills, which he said pushed them to several vices.
He urged the government to be proactive in the securing of lives and properity of the citizens and the equipping of the security architecture.
The traditional ruler hailed the efforts of the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike in the provision of incentives to the state security architecture to combat crime, and thanked the state Commissioner of Police for ensuring the safe rescue of the Ikuru monarch.
In his response, King Aaron Ikuru expressed gratitude to God for his release from the kidrappers’ den, and thanked the Royal Fathers for their show of concern and interest in his welfare and safety.
Meanwhile, the King of Bille Kingdom in Degema Local Government Council of the State, King Igbikingeri Ngowari Cornelius Herbert, has urged the federal and state governments to boost socio-economic development and tackle youth restiveness in his domain.
He said Bille, a coastal community, had been faced with insecurity, especially pirates’ attacks for several years, which had affected the development of the area.
The monarch stressed that the call, especially for the provision of road networks and protection of his people, among others, would rebuild the community’s economy, enhance the standard of living of its residents and make the area an investment destination.
He stated that expansion of the Bille community and its economy, would create job opportunities, bring the desired development and tackle youth restiveness.
He urged the community to embrace the oil companies operating and allow peace to reign to enable them work together to achieve the desired results.
