The newly installed President of a Non-Governmental Organisation in Rivers State, the United Brothers of Opobo Kingdom (UBOK), Hon. Alafuro Mac-Pepple has pledged total commitment to youth and women development in the area.
He said: “Our group intends to impact on our world by giving hope to the youths of Opobo in particular and others in general. So far, our activities are to make life more meaningful for our youths and women, as well as the community we live in.”
Buttressing the need to correct some challenges in the lives of the ordinary people, Mac-Pepple hinted that many of the group’s members would be empowered financially to be able to fend for themselves and as well, sink boreholes at theComprehensive Junior Secondary School, Opobo Town.
Explaining further, he said, the group would also encourage the less privileged in the area and pursue the establishment of UBOK secretariat to serve members in both social and official engagements.
While urging public-spirited individuals and corporate organisations to support the group to enable it carry out the programmes lined up, the president assured that the body will provide other demanding welfare packages for its members and non-members for them to have a sense of belonging.
Meanwhile, former president of the group, Hon. Alayi Uranta, who advised the newly inaugurated executive to be focused in the discharge of their social responsibilities, explained that the Nigerian youths should take the front-burner in the activities of the nation.
According to him, Nigerian youths are exposed to lots of challenges because of circumstances beyond their control, adding that, it was important for all hands to be on deck to safeguard the future of the Nigerian youths.
He urged the new executive to pay special attention to membership, “ensure your membership are highly satisfied and not shrinking so that the group can be on the high side with programmes that will encourage others outside.”
Uranta, who performed the inauguration, remarked that the election of the new executive was a testimony to the trust and confidence reposed in them, adding, “UBOK is one of the most active groups in the community in particular and Rivers State in general.
“I therefore, believe that you all would justify this confidence and take the members to greater pedestals,” he said.
