Insecurity: Work, Pray, Stop Folding Your Hands, Obasanjo Tells Nigerians

Following the challenges of insecurity in Nigeria, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged citizens to team up and pray for the country to be better.
Obasanjo said Nigerians can’t fold their hands and watch as insecurity ravages the country.
He spoke while hosting a special envoy to the archbishop of Canterbury, Archbishop Justin Welby, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, yesterday, who visited to deliver a birthday letter congratulating him on his 83rd birthday.
The Archbishop of Canterbury is the Senior Bishop and principal leader of the Church of England, the symbolic head of the Anglican Communion worldwide and the Diocesan Bishop of the Diocese of Canterbury.
The Special Assistant on Media to Obasanjo, Kehinde Akinyemi, said the letter dated February 20, 2020, was delivered to Obasanjo by Bishop Precious Omuku.
The former President also stressed that all Nigerians must work and pray to restore unity in the country.
He said: “There are so many areas in the world where attentions are needed for peace, equity, and justice. We just cannot as children of God, fold our hands where needs abound for us to do something.
“If you Nigeria cannot solve your security problem or unity, how can we look up to you for help, help comes from God and we are looking up to God for help.
“We cannot fold our hands, we must work and pray, but I’m a very irredeemable optimist about Nigeria and the world. If we show love, I think all other human problems we can deal with.”
Obasanjo also said that he would not rest on his oars until global peace is achieved.
The former president, who described the letter as “a special birthday gift”, said the request to continue to serve for peace was a challenge to him.
“It is a challenge to do more than what we have done. You realise that everywhere we are, there is always an opportunity to work for peace and an opportunity to work for justice, which is foundation for peace.
“There is plenty of work to do. My prayer is that God will give us the wherewithal to do more,” Obasanjo said.
He commended the Director of the Centre for Human Security and Dialogue (CHS&D), Prof. Peter Okebukola, for organizing what he described as surprised package.
“Every birthday is a special day, but this particular one is particularly special. I thanked Archbishop and the initiator of this surprise occasion, Prof. Okebukola,” he said.
