Coronavirus: We’re Not Planning Travel Ban, FG Clarifies

The Federal Government is not contemplating imposition of a travel ban on travellers over the spread of the deadly Coronavirus, the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, has said.
The minister pointed out that the country has not reached the point of banning large gatherings.
Addressing member of the diplomatic corps during an interactive parley on the new visa regime in Abuja, yesterday, Ehanire assured the foreign diplomats that the measures put in place by the Federal Government would contain the spread of the disease, noting that “there was no immediate reason for now to impose a travel ban.”
He said the country is guided by the World Health Organisation (WHO) guideline on Coronavirus containment.
Ehanire also that the index case of Cornavirus in Nigeria, an Italian will be discharged soon.
The minister disclosed this, yesterday in Abuja during a conference with the diplomatic community about measures being taken by the Federal Government to tackle the spread of the disease.
The minister emphasised on the fact that there are only two confirmed cases in Nigeria, the index case and the second person who was a primary contact of the Italian.
The Italian citizen was confirmed to have the Coronavirus after series of tests were carried out by the Virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in February.
The Commissioner of Health in Lagos, Prof Akin Abayomi, had earlier disclosed that the health of the Coronavirus patient was improving.
Abayomi urged the residents not to panic, and assured them that the government was putting necessary measures in place to curb the spread of the virus.
