Wike Confident Of Victory
The Rivers Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, Deputy Governor, Mrs Ipalibo Harry Banigo, and other members of the Rivers State Executive Council retreated back to their various wards to cast their votes during last Saturday’s gubernatorial and State Assembly elections.
This was the climax of months of campaigns and preparations which completely took over last week businesses in Government House , Port Harcourt.
Governor Wike who was accompanied by his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzette Nyesom- Wike voted at Unit 7, Ward 9 in Obio/Akpo Local Government Area, at about 10.47 am after being duly accredited.
Addressing Journalists after casting his vote, the Governor said: “ for now , we are satisfied and confident that we will win in this election very well. We are not afraid”.
He said, in spite the fact that there were manipulations in some local government areas, but with the report reaching him, his party shall win.
He attributed low turn out of voters at the Saturday’s election to illegal activities of the military during Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The Governor was also at Ahoada on Tuesdayfor the Rivers West Senatorail ,District Town Hall meeting .
At the meeting , the Governor raised alarm that APC in collaboration with some security agencies were planning to kidnap the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), to create excuse for postponement of the gubernatorial and state assembly elections .
He further stated that APC with some security agencies were also planning to generate mass violence to disrupt distribution of materials for the Saturday election.
He called on the people of the district to remain vigilant, peaceful and vote for PDP candidates but to defend their votes.
Another major event in Brick House last week was the memorial service organised in honour of the soldier and civilians that died in Abonnema during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The governor who attended the service set up a committee headed by the Depuy Governor, to identify those who died in the election and property damaged.
Wike promised that the state government would assist the families of the victims.
On last Friday, Governor Wike made a state broadcast in which he condemned what he termed stage-managed unlawful arrest of PDP members ahead of last Saturday’s election.
He urged security agencies to be professional and unbiased in the discharge of their duties for peaceful conduct of credible polls in the state.
Wike who enjoined Rivers people to come out en- masse to vote for candidates of their choice appealed to stakeholders, including the APC to join forces with his administration as patriots for peaceful poll.

LP Crisis: Ex-NWC Member Dumps Dumps Abure Faction
Mr Ojukwu, who recently returned to the interim National Working Committee led by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, noted that the party had 34 elected members in the House of Representatives, eight Senators, and 80 members at the state Houses of Assembly after the 2023 general elections.
“Now we lost all of them,” he said. “I don’t think we have as many as five members in the National Assembly.”
The former national officer of the LP talked to journalists in Abuja and said he chose to join the caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi-Usman because they are now the officially recognized leaders of the Party.
“I chose to work with the caretaker committee to help save the Labour Party, for the benefit of the party. I also want to use this chance to ask my colleagues at the national, state, and local government levels to come together and help rebuild our party.
“Another election is around the corner. We lost everything we have. They have left to other political parties. So I’ll reach out to all my friends in the other group to get together and work on making this party stronger again.
“The caretaker committee has formed a reconciliation committee. Let’s come together and talk so that we can restore the first opposition political party in Nigeria.”
Mr Ojukwu, who was part of the Julius Abure’s group, said there are no more factions in the LP.
He added, “There is a court ruling, and since it is valid, the right people are in the correct positions.”
He urged Barr Abure and others to drop the legal cases they have filed because they are not helping the party.
“Litigations are killing political parties”, he said. “They’ve seen many political parties disappear because of legal battles, and the Labor Party is losing support every day, which makes me feel sad.”
Mr Ojukwu said he did not think joining the Senator Nenadi-Usman’s NWC was a betrayal of the Abure group, describing himself as “the oxygen” of that faction.
“I’m with this group because of the verdict. But I never betrayed anybody. Rather, I was betrayed,” he added.
