The pupils of Beryl Phare 3 Academy Nursery and Primary School in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, last Thursday, paid an excursion visit to the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, publishers of The Tide Newspapers, with a view to educating the pupils on the workings of newspaper productions and printing.
The pupils were accompanied by the school’s Head Teacher, Mrs. Kelechi Obi and were conducted round the various units within the editorial and production departments by the Research and Training Editor, Mr. Opaka Dokubo.
Speaking to The Tide after the visit, the leader and Head Teacher of the school, Mrs. Kelechi Obi thanked the management of the corporation for the opportunity given them to pay the visit, adding that the excursion has enlightened the pupils on the workability and operations guiding a newspaper industry.
She disclosed that the pupils have learnt a lot on the visit and added that they have been educated on how the newspaper contents are being processed in various stages.
According to her, the education received by the pupils during the visit would encourage some of them to venture into the journalism profession.
Mrs, Obi further used the opportunity to commend the editorial contents of the newspaper, adding that the people of the state and the country at large have benefited immensely in the newspaper’s reportage.
Earlier in his speech, the Editor, Training and Research, Mr. Opaka Dokubo commended the management of the school for choosing the corporation for the excursion visit and urged parents and care givers to counsel their children properly on the choice of their academic career in life.
The pupils were conducted round the Newsroom, Computer, Rotary, Lithographic and Production and Commercial Units during the visit.
