The Police in Rivers State say they have launched an investigation into the killing of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Eleme Local Government Area of the state, Jonah Chu.
Jonah Chu, who was the Ward 7 Chairman in Onne, Eleme Local Government Area was reportedly attacked and killed by unknown gunmen in Onne last Sunday evening.
Spokesman of the State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the incident to The Tide yesterday morning.
Details of the death of the APC chieftain were still sketchy as at press time.
But Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP) said, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Zaki had directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Onne and the Area Commander of Eleme to comb the nooks and crannies of the area in order to fish out the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to justice.
Our correspondent reports that the news ofChu’s death shook the area, as people were seen in groups yesterday morning discussing the unfortunate incident.
The police spokesman said: “Yes I can confirm it. No arrest has been made yet. But we are working on some clues.”
