Rep Makes Case For Rainstorm Victims In Bayelsa
A member of House of Representatives representing Yenagoa-Kolokuma-Opokuma Federal Constituency, Douye Diri has led a delegation to Biseni community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State which was last week devastated by rainstorm.
Several families have been rendered homeless and exposed to the vagaries of the weather in the last one week.
The delegation, which saw first hand the level of damage inflicted on residential buildings, churches, farm lands, electric poles and cables were shocked by the plight of the people.
Diri, accompanied by the member of the state House of Assembly representing Yenagoa Constituency III. Gentle Emelah, noted that a team of property evaluators was to be engaged immediately to assess the impact of the rainstorm on the community.
He called on the Federal Government, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA and oil multinationals, to come to the aid of the devastated community.
“To those who were affected, we have started a process to assess the level of damage and analyse the destruction, know how many affected,” he said. “We will need a professional property evaluator to do that in no distant time.
We will also follow up with international oil companies, government ministries, agencies and departments at federal and state levels to take urgent relief action.”
