MOSOP Fears Fresh Crisis In Ogoni
The Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) says Ogoni risks another round of crisis, if the activities of some indigenous oil companies operating in the state are not checked.
The President of the movement, Mr. Legborsi Pyagbara, who said this at a media briefing in Port Harcourt, said that some indigenous oil companies were adopting policies of divide and rule to polarise the Ogonis, stressing that this could plunge the area into another round of crisis.
Pyagbara said that the Federal Government and the security agencies must immediately step in to check the situation, and blamed the proliferation of groups in Ogoniland clamouring for oil exploration on negligence by the Federal Government.
He stressed that if the Federal Government had initiated proper negotiation, the Ogonis would not be in this situation.
“The Federal Government and security agencies should intervene to save Ogonis from another round of crisis”, he warned.
The MOSOP president further told newsmen that he was not aware that the Federal Government has granted oil licence to Robo Michael to operate in OML 11, stressing that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Robo Michael must be called to order to avoid crisis in the area.
Meanwhile, MOSOP has condemned the planned reintroduction of the onshore/offshore dichotomy in the revenue sharing formula in the country.
