JUSUN Calls For Release Of Kidnapped Members
The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Rivers State branch has called for unconditional release of its abducted executive members by their captors.
The State Chairman of JUSUN, Comrade Sokari George who made the call in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt last Wednesday, said the continuous detention of his colleagues for over four days by their abductors was uncalled for.
Sokari narrated that un-known gunmen had last Sunday abducted the Vice Chairman of the union, Comrade Ibim Opusunju and the Secretary, Carol Tams along Isiokpo road on their way back from a national congress in Abuja.
He further disclosed that the two principal officers of the union were allegedly kidnapped alongside other five passengers, adding that since the incident occurred, there has not been any contact established from their abductors.
According to him, the union is worried about their health conditions and appealed to their abductors to release them as they are mere civil servants.
He used the opportunity to call on security agents in the state to intensify efforts in ensuring that the abducted persons regain their freedom.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Nnamdi Omoni assured that the police are working seriously to ensure that the JUSUN members regain their freedom.
According to him, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zaki Mohammed Ahmed had directed all the crack units in the State to intensify efforts in ensuring the release of the victims as well as ensure that the abductors are arrested and bought to book.
