RSG Unveils Elechi Amadi’s Burial Plan
The Rivers State Government has unveiled a burial programme for late literary icon, Captain Elechi Amadi.
Chairman of the State burial Committee, Hon. Frank Achinike Owhor, who said this at a press conference in Port Harcourt, yesterday, said that, the burial activities proper, which lasts for one week, will start from November 28, to December 4,2016.
According to him, the month-long programme commenced with a press conference at the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre, Tuesday, 8th November, 2016.
Other activities lined up include, Reading of the Works of Elechi Amadi at RSUST Amphitheatre by Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) on Thursday, 17th November, 2016, mathematics and physics/literary Quiz competition for Secondary Schools on Wednesday, 23 November, 2016 as well as Reading of the Works of Elechi Amadi at Port Harcourt Polytechnic Rumuola Road, Port Harcourt by Association of Nigerian Authors.
Others include, staging of selected plays, Isiburu, Great Ponds on Monday, 28 November, 2016, at Obi Wali Cultural Centre, launching of Biography, Book Fair and Arts exhibition on Tuesday, 29 November, 2016, while Wednesday, 30th November, 2016, will witness service of songs. Night of Tributes from 5-7pm at Civic Centre, Port Harcourt.
Owhor also said that, a colloquium (Academic presentations/Award of Prizes for mathematics and Physics Competition will hold on Thursday, 1st December, 2016, Mock Execo at cabinet Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt on 2nd of December, 2016 While his body will be received by Ogbakor Ikwerre Convention Worldwide same day at his maternal family 3.30pm – 4.30pm.
He further added that the body will lie in state at his family home from 5pm till dawn as well as praise Night/ANA Night 5 to 7pm.
He said that burial proper/reception will hold at his family compound on Saturday, 6 December, 2016, while a thanksgiving service holds Sunday, 7th December, 2016.
The committee chairman said that literary giants and other scholars across the world will grace the event.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
