Lawmakers Seek Oil-Producing Status For Kogi
There is strong agitation for recognition of Kogi state as an oil-producing state by the federal government.
Leading the demand, the Kogi State House of Assembly said there was every need to accord the state its desired oil-producing status.
According to the lawmakers, the need for such recognition by the Federal Government has become imperative in view of the exploration of oil in Echeno and Udeke, in Ibaji local government area of the state.
The clamour followed the adoption of a motion by Hon John Abah (Ibaji constituency) appealing to the state government to expedite action in ensuring the declaration of Kogi State as an oil producing state by the federal government.
Apart from the state House of Assembly, a group which identified itself as Concerned Youth Group in the state also threw its support for the resolution calling on the Federal Government to accord the state its deserving oil producing status.
The group said the state has met all needed requirements and, to be fair, there was need to declare its oil producing status without further delay
