Author Blames Economic Woes On Past Leaders
A prolific author nad traditional ruler, Chief Adaobi Whyte, says the economic woes befalling Nigeria today were a build-up of several years of misrule, financial mismanagement and corruption caused by the founding fathers.
Speaking at the launching of her book titled: “How Africans Vandalised Africa” (Focusing on Nigeria), Whyte regretted that past leaders destroyed the good legacies the colonial masters left for the country after independence.
“The white men laid a good foundation for us, but the black man destroyed all what they kept instead of developing it. Nigeria is degenerating and no longer comfortable for the poor”, she said.
The Ndoni-born writer stressed the need for the study of African history in Nigeria schools, pointing out that the military in their many years of rulership destroyed the country’s economy.
In his speech, chairman of the occasion, Prof Franklin O. Chukwuma, who commended the author for coming out with the book, described the work as well written in a way that would make many university graduates blink and wink with envy.
Chukwuma said the author had displayed great ideas that would arouse diverse opinions, emotions, criticisms, skepticism, cynicism and critical analyses from great minds, describing her as a previous and priceless gift to Ndoni and Rivers State in general.
Whyte has other four books, “Abuse of the Nigerian Child,” “Plight of the Nigerian Woman,” “Dr Peter Otunuya Odili: Threading the Path of Destiny,” and “Ndoni Kingdom and Peaceful Co-existence” to her credit.
