RSG Releases N180m For Okrika Water Project
The Rivers State Government has released the sum of N180 million for the completion of the Okrika Water project.
Commissioner for Water Resources And Rural development, Chief Ibibia Walter, who disclosed this at a media briefing in his office in Port Harcourt, also said that the government has given the contractor three months to complete the water project.
Walter said that the water project with a storage capacity of 450 meter of 75,000 gallons will be pumped through 50 taps across the island.
The Commissioner, who described the project as a promise fulfilled by Governor Nyesom Wike to the people of Okrika, also hinted of plans by the administration to commission the Isaka water project.
He charged the contractor, Witcom Services Limited, to not only ensure the timely delivery of the project but ensure that it is done to specification.
Also speaking, the permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources and Rural Development, Dr. Paulinus Nwankwoala, said that the project was abandoned 20 years ago by successive administrations in the state.
He also commended Wike for fulfilling his promise of rehabilitating the water project.
On his part, the Director, Water Supply Quality And Sanitation, Engr. Emmanuel Amatemeso, said that the project was the only source of drinking water in the island, adding that the completion of the project will check the rate of water-borne diseases in the area.
Amatemeso said that the Okrikans were happy that a project abandoned 20 years ago was being completed by the present administration in the state.
Speaking, the Project Manager, Witcom Services Limited, Engr. Ibibia Williams, promised that the company will ensure quality in the execution of the project.
