NAFDAC Nabs Man Over Fake Milk Production
The National Agency for
Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has arrested a 56-year old man, Christopher Nnabuihe, who specialises in the production and sale of fake powdered peak milk.
Nnabuihe, who resides at 42 Cameroun Road, Cross River State, has already confessed to crime of refilling 440g (promotion pack) powdered peak milk with another cheaper brand of milk product which he buys in large quantity, and uses to refill the pack.
The suspect also confessed to buying the already printed 440g packs from Ariaria Relieve Market, Aba, Abia State, from where he takes them to Calabar for refilling and sealing with candle light.
According to him, “one 50kg of the milk will fill 27 pieces (two cartons and three pieces, and I sell one carton of the fake peak milk oat N6,000 and make a profit of N1,000 per carton”.
NAFDAC coordinator in Cross River State, Dr Isaac Kolawole, said that they have been receiving complaints of adulterated peak milk from consumers, which forced operatives to swing into action, leading to the arrest of the suspect while making supplies to stores.
The NAFDAC Coordinator warned that hard times await those who indulge in adulteration of NAFDAC regulated products as the agency will come down hard on them.
According to him, taking such an unwholesome and questionable product may result to some health problems as nobody can vouch for the content of fake products and the good hygienic practices, adding that laboratory analysis will be conducted on the product.
