Banigo Tasks ngos, cbos On Cancer Reduction

Deputy Governor, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has urged Non-Governmental Organisations and Civil Society Groups to come up with templates that will assist government in reducing the prevalent cases of cancer in the country.
Banigo made the call when members of the Civil Society for Cancer Eradication in Nigeria, Rivers State chapter paid her a courtesy visit at Government House, Port Harcourt.
She stressed the need for early detection of cancer as well as proper education and enlightenment on the right type of food, regular exercises and weight reduction to prevent the spread of cancer related diseases.
The deputy governor, who called on organisations involved in the prevention of cancer to take their awareness campaigns to schools, communities and corporate organisations gave an assurance of government’s readiness to partner relevant agencies involved in effort aimed at reducing the spate of cancer pandemic in the society.
Banigo while commending the society for its humanitarian services noted with delight the sentiments expressed about the present administration, contending that the Governor Nyesom Wike-led government was poised to transform the state to an enviable status.
Earlier in her welcome address, the state Co-ordinator of the Civil Society for Cancer Eradication in Nigeria, Amb Mercy Gani Ajuka, had said the body, which is a coalition of different NGOs, is aimed at preventing, mitigating and eradicating cancer in the country.
She commended the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for his effort towards enhancing the development and security of the state.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
