Bishop Tasks Nigerians On Peace
The Bishop of Evo
Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Innocent Ordu, has urged Nigerians to embrace peace so as to engender sustainable growth and development in the nation.
Bishop Ordu gave the charge while making a presentation at a seminar organised by the Diocese to mark the 2016 edition of International Peace Day celebration at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Rumubiakani, Port Harcourt recently.
The Bishop who was represented by Venerable Chidi Worgu stressed the need for Christians to be vanguards of peace in the communities, Churches and the society at large.
In his remarks, the Dean, Faculty of Law, Rivers State University of Science and Technology, (RSUST) Prof. Nlerum Okogbule commended the Evo Diocese for their pivotal role in promoting peace in the society.
Delivering a lecture on the topic “The Sustainable Development Goals, Building Blocks for Peace”, Prof. Okogbule noted that the imperatives of peace-building in Nigeria were a collective endevour.
He said, to attain sustainable peace, issues of injustices, poverty, and unemployment must be addressed.
He called on the Church, government, communities and individuals to recognise their roles in the process of peace building.
Also speaking, the Head of Department of Religious/Cultural Studies, University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Willington Wotogbe Weneka, described peace-makers as the real children of God as admonished by the scripture.
He urged the Church to intensify its role as intercessors for the state and the society at large and not remain indifferent in the scheme of things.
He encouraged the Church to be a part of the world body in promoting peace.
