Commissioner Gives Contractor Marching Order
The Rivers State Govern
ment has given the construction company handling Igbogo Choba Road project, NUGI Limited up till today to finish the job or have its contract terminated.
The Commissioner for Works, Hon. Bethuel Iheanyichukwu Harrison gave the order while inspecting some road projects in Port Harcourt at the weekend.
He said Governor Wike’s administration would not tolerate any contactor that would not take its work seriously and directed the site engineer, Segun Abimbola to ensure that the job was delivered as scheduled.
The Commissioner also expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work on Professor Tam David-West Boulevard and directed the construction company handling the road project, CGC Construction Company to expedite work on the project.
“The road was awarded to China Construction. It took some time for them to actually start work and we were not happy with the pace of work. So, we came and gave instructions and right now, they are working at the end of the road leading to former SARS road now known as Sir Celestine Omehia road.
“Although, there is some improvement with the pace of work, generally I am not satisfied with the level of work done so far,” he said.
On Rumuomasi-Ozuoba and Rumuaparaeli-Choba roads, Hon. Harrison commended HADO Construction Company for the quality of work done and expressed hope the roads would be ready for commissioning in August.
“I’m impressed with level of work done in terms of standard and maintaining the required specifications,” he said.
He reiterated the governor’s commitment in providing accessible roads in the state in spite of the dwindling allocation to the state from the federation account.
